Visual Studio Express doesn't support extensions.

If GitExtensions works with Express, that's because it is an Add-In, and not a VSPackage extension.

VisualHG is a VSPackage.

I haven't tried GitExtensions, but I took a look at the project source on github. And it seems to have quite limited functionality compared to that of VisualHG. I didn't investigate if it's possible to transfer all the features from the extension to an add-in, but I doubt that it's worth it anyway.

If you look up Add-In on MSDN, you'll find that every article starts with this notice:
Visual Studio add-ins are deprecated in Visual Studio 2013. You should upgrade your add-ins to VSPackage extensions.
Add-ins that extend Express are viewed as violating EULA by Microsoft.
