Cannot commit from Project root node if it has a nested repo with commits

I have a few nested repos (not subrepos) in the VS solution.

There are repos at

  1. The solution folder
  2. a project folder
  3. a subfolder in same project

I can commit to everything from Windows Explorer, as expected. Committing to the solution (1.) & sub-folder (3.) repos work as expected. If I select the project node in the solution explorer, right click --> commit it tells me there is nothing to commit. If I select the properties node under the project and try to commit from there it works as expected.

It seems to behave as expected until the subfolder (3.) has a commit made to it - then it breaks. If the repo at (3.) has no commits then it seems to work ok.

... or it may depend on the repo at (1.) not having any outstanding commits. That seems to break it.

It seems to work ok, albeit somewhat silently (TortoiseHg's issue) if I set them up as subrepos. That's probably a better idea anyway.
